HKMW 2017 is teeming with a myriad of events of different nature, ranging from industry briefings, seminars and
conferences, corporate funcons, marime-themed sports to networking events. This bullen highlights three
acvies for youngsters —

the historical Green Island
Lighthouse, the Ma Wan Fairway,

will end at the museum, where a

full-mission ship simulator at the
Government Dockyard? Equipped
with full-funcon navigaon &
communicaon consoles, as well as
a virtual marine environment

state-of-the-art facility will be
eye-opening for students and give
them first-hand experience at the
helm of a ship of their choosing.
Ready to check out a live
demonstraon of fire-fighng and
survival techniques? During the
open day of the Marime Services
Training Instute, visitors will
acquire a beer understanding of
marime training, as well as the
shipping industry. Don’t miss this

various marine training facilies
and equipment first-hand,
including the full mission
ship-handling simulator, marine
radars, the mock-up bridge of a
merchant ship, fireman ouits and
firefighng equipment, rope
making machine, medical care and

Museum Director
Hong Kong Marime Museum (HKMM) has been working closely with the Hong Kong Shipowners Associaon
(HKSOA) and will join hands with the Hong Kong Marime and Port Board to organise “Hong Kong Marime Week
2017” on 19-26 November, with a view to provide a plaorm for corporates of the marime industry to be
involved and connected, as well as to reach students with a focus on employment opportunies in the marime
sector.
The Hong Kong Marime Week aims to expand relaonship with marime associaons and allow them to deliver
their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) objecves. These include increasing public awareness about the
significant and acve role of the marime industry in modern day Hong Kong, encouragement of public support
for and understanding of shipping issues and to provide port based educaonal resources and acvies for young
people.
The Hong Kong Marime Week will consist of a series of educaon programmes, such as public talks by industry
representaves, a Family Fun Day, industry booths as well as ship bridge simulator visits. To encourage our
marime community taking up its social responsibility as well as introduce potenal career opportunies to
youngsters, a new Career Expo will be held on 25 November aimed at both high school and university level
students.
Thanks to the generous assistance of many stakeholders, especially aer the inial grant from the Marime and
Aviaon Development Fund (MATF) in 2016, the parcipaon of school children has doubled, and a total of 2,219
visitors were aracted to similar events at the museum last year. A partnership with the Educaon Bureau
Business-School Partnership Programme also provided a good schools outreach plaorm. Companies interested

a high-level plaorm for the industry, academia and the Government to work closely
together to set the direcon for the development of Hong Kong’s marime and port
